Welcome to our 2013 Sunday School!
CHRISTIAN FORMATION – 10:15 a.m.- 11:05 a.m.: We welcome you to our Sunday School classes!
Classes and Locations*:
Godly Play, ages 4-third grade, in the Godly Play room, next to Chapel (first room at the top of the stairs) Goldy Play was introduced this year for our children ages 4 years through the 3rd grade. Godly Play is quite a change .. both in content and classroom set up — from our previous program. The children approached it with caution and wonder. With the work of the Holy Spirit their caution has turned to anticipation and their wonder has expanded ten fold. Over the next month they will continue to investigate the Old Testament with the building of the Tabernacle and the exile. They will also be introduced to the major and Minor Prophets as well as the organization of the bible.
During advent the children will take an in depth look at the Christmas story. The new year will bring an exploration of the parables. As we move forward we must extend a huge thank you to St. Frances church who has loaned us many of the manipulatives to tell these stories.
Middlers and Jr. High: 4th-8th grade; in the “Green room”
“Grow, Proclaim, Service!” This program aligns itself nicely with our mission statement “to know Christ and make Him known”. This fall they have remembered Moses from his birth to the celebration in the wilderness as the Hebrew people were freed from Pharaoh; after which they spent several weeks remembering God’s people as they spent their time in the wilderness. The fall unit concludes with remembering God’s promised land as they will look at several stories from the book of Joshua.
The winter unit has three parts, first they will look at the peaceable kingdom. We see God’s Son come into the world as a child to offer us peace. Next, they will look at stories from the Gospel of Matthew about living in the kingdom. Our kiddos will learn how Jesus teaches us how God wants us to live. Finally, they will investigate stories from the kingdom, the sower and the seeds, the Good Samaritan, the lost sheep and the forgiving father.
The spring will bring a set of lessons from the gospels and the book of Acts which will explore a new life, a new Paul and new believers.
High School: 9th-12 grade, in the Grey Room
In addition to discussion of the Sunday lectionary, the class has made several trips to the food pantry to help sort, stack and bag food for their clients. Looking forward to the next couple months, the class will select a book from the bible and begin an in depth study
Children and Our Worship Service.
Children’s sermons will continue on the first Sunday of the month at the 9:00 service. Father David looks forward to sharing the gospel with the children of our congregation. The other Sundays, Children’s Chapel is available during the 9 and 11:15 services (For ages 3-8).
