Lenten programs 2017 will be offered on March 9, March 23, 30 and April 6th, featuring “5 Marks of Love” series. Each begins with a catered dinner at 6 p.m. The program will be 6:45-7:30 p.m.
Also as part of the 2017 Lenten season, St. Andrew’s will hold Evening Prayer during Lent, 5:00-5:30 p.m.
Each Sunday from 10:15-10:45 a.m., Centering Prayer is offered in the Prayer Room located on the northeast side of the second floor. Participants can come regularly or occasionally. A selection from the day’s scriptures is read aloud, followed by a 15-minute quiet time for individual meditation. Discussion follows for the final 15 minutes. The exercise provides individuals with a way to see how scriptures are meaningful in their daily lives.
One of the most meaningful ways to kickstart one’s spiritual growth may be a retreat or quiet day experience. It is often when one takes a break from daily routines that distractions are eliminated and room is found for God’s presence. A list of possible retreat houses, each of which may list specific dates/themes, is listed here: Retreat facilities
St. Andrew’s has two members who are spiritual directors: Kathleen Phillips and Lonny Tanel. They are available to meet with individual on matters of spirituality on either a monthly or as need basis. Spiritual direction provides a way for people to talk about where God is in their life while the director listens “with a holy ear.” Spiritual directors are not counselors but rather they are trained to ask questions that delve into the matters of one’s soul. They also are able to suggest prayer techniques and other methods to help one grow spiritually. Kathleen is also qualified to mentor individuals through the Ignatian Exercises. For more information, contact Kathleen Phillips at 979-324-4302, , or Lonny Tanel at 979-255-0797,
Additional spiritual directors for consideration can be found here.
FIND (Formation in Direction) is a diocesan school with two tracks — spiritual direction and spiritual formation. Students come from far and wide to attend the three-year school, which meets once a month on a Saturday, September-June. Conveniently, the school meets at St. Andrew’s.
